To do that you need to have resilient people who are open minded and highly engaged. CEO Samih Nabulsi selected EQ Consutling to help, forming a partnership that has seen a dramatic increase in people’s wellbeing, engagement and morale.

Cook Medical recognises it needs to evolve and look at new ways to engage and motivate their people to stay ahead of the game. 

In 2017, Cook Medical Australia established a very clear vision for it’s people, to have the healthiest and most productive workforce after going through a transformation. To do that you need to have resilient people who are open minded and highly engaged.

CEO Samih Nabulsi selected EQ Consutling to help, forming a partnership that has seen a dramatic increase in peoples wellbeing, engagement and morale.

We were initially asked to deliver a customised Mindfulness program to the leadership team. This work led to an expanded, ongoing relationship that includes training 400 employees across the Cook Medical organisation.

The overarching goal is to transform Cook Medical into a healthy, productive, and engaged high performing organisation with:

  • Learn coping skills to decrease stress, burnout and anxiety
  • The ability to arise to a global transformation
  • Encourage a resilient, happier and healthier workforce

Where currently there is a war on good people, EQ Consulting is providing Cook Medical with a major differentiator.

Solution.

EQ Consulting worked with Cook Medical rolling out 8 week Mindfulness and Productivity programs. It was delivered to 24 senior leaders and 120 (so far) employees in fortnightly face-to-face workshops, supported by pre and post surveys, weekly mindfulness sessions (championed by an internal senior leader) and weekly follow up emails.

The Mindfulness and Productivity program helps define organisational values, consistent with Cook’s Code of Conduct, inspiring behavioural changes required to reach their goals of a smooth transformation period. We built support tools and an embedding strategy.

Results.

In total 144 people (to date) from the Brisbane office participated in the Mindfulness program in 2016/2017 and ongoing into 2018. 

To drive intrinsic motivation the HR team, introduced the program as an optional offering at Cook Medical. “It continually books out year on year, so we know the people who really want to be there, are.” To encourage cross-functional collaboration there was limited spots for different area’s of the business.

Independent surveys for Cook Medical measured key engagement and performance indicators during this period, which showed an outstanding result validating the CEO’s targeted approach and delivery that Cook Medical and EQ Consulting developed together.

‘Making the change stick’ was a key element for success, where a senior leader championed becoming a Mindfulness ambassador running weekly meditation and mindfulness sessions. The digital team, rolls out a blog monthly, mindfulness topics are featured in the quarterly magazine, the CEO invested into a ‘Mindfulness Space’ creating a beautiful landscaped area for people to go and reset, recharge and renew. 

The post-program feedback was positive, Cook Medical hired EQ Consulting again in 2017/18, to create a workforce who are calm, engaged and equipped to be emotionally intelligent leaders.
